“Make the devil cry.”
Name: Nero
Age: Unknown, appears to be in early twenties.
Race: Human/Demon hybrid, exact ancestry unknown.
Personality: Nero is a smartass, often quick to anger (especially when others attempt to manipulate him) and fiercely loyal to his friends and allies. He’s disrespectful to authority and anyone else he meets, unless they’ve earned his respect. Nero won’t hesitate to rebel against something he sees as idiotic, and will tell anyone off if he thinks they deserve it. He detests demons for their cruelty, and will always destroy them without hesitation to protect others. He won’t hesitate to voice his opinion, but is still smart enough to keep certain things secret. Nero is often able to figure out more than he lets on, which he uses to his advantage to make his opponents underestimate him.
Nero is in love, and in a relationship, with his childhood friend Kyrie. He would do anything for her and to keep her safe. Nero embraces his human side, and all the good and bad that comes with it. This is what allows Nero to accept his demonic heritage, and to justify his continuing extermination of demons. Currently, the only other person Nero is close enough to that he can call a friend is the legendary devil hunter, and fellow human/demon hybrid, Dante. Despite his friendship with, and recognition of the skills of, Dante, Nero is still very much a lone wolf on his demon slaying expeditions. Still, if the challenge is good enough, and there’s enough fun to go around, he’ll happily share with Dante.

![[image]](http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/devilmaycry/images/3/36/NDT_DMC4.jpg) History: Nero’s origins and early life are a complete mystery, even to him. Nero’s blood relatives are completely unknown as well, other than him being a descendant of Sparda. He was an orphan in the city of Fortuna until he was taken in by Credo, and his sister, Kyrie. He grew up with them, and eventually followed Credo in joining the Order of the Sword. The Order is a religious organization that worships Sparda as a god, and trained humans to fight off demons like their deity. Nero quickly became an extremely adept fighter, on par with Credo, who was the Order’s Supreme General of the Holy Knights. However, Nero’s attitude constantly has him working alone on the Order’s dirty work, and also kept him from advancing in the ranks of the Holy Knights.
As the Order was nearing its ambition to use demons, their demon-augmented soldiers and their Savior to rule the world, Dante arrives and, rather inelegantly, attempted to stop the Order. Dante’s first attempt led to Nero attempting to fight him one-on-one. During this battle, Nero’s demonic powers began to manifest in his right arm, creating his Devil Bringer. Though Nero was at first no match for Dante, the devil hunter let him be for the time. Nero then began to pursue Dante, during which he fought numerous demons, strengthened his own demonic powers and began to unravel the mysterious events he found himself mired in at the time.
Nero managed to defeat several powerful demons, restored the broken Yamato sword once wielded by Dante’s twin brother, Vergil, and defeated several of the Order’s strongest enhanced warriors, namely Credo, Agnus and Sanctus. The Yamato fully awakened Nero’s powers, granting him a Devil Trigger. Nero even managed to prove he could fight toe-to-toe with Dante himself for a time. Eventually, things come to a head as Nero and Dante work together to end Sanctus and his Savior once and for all. Once all was said and done, Nero and Dante became friends, Nero was officially entrusted by Dante with the Yamato and Nero and Kyrie were finally allowed to be together.
However, Nero isn’t done yet. He now works as a devil hunter like Dante.
Special: Nero is versed in numerous martial arts and can utilize almost any type of weapon. He is knowledgeable on demons and their abilities. He uses a special twin-barreled pistol called the Blue Rose for his standard long-range attacks. For short range attacks, Nero uses a custom sword called the Red Queen. The Red Queen’s most unique feature is that it can be revved like a motorcycle, causing a flaming accelerant to spread along the blade, increasing its power and range. Nero also has his Devil Bringer, his demonic right arm. The Devil Bringer grants Nero vastly increased strength, the ability to manipulate faraway objects and enemies, to move himself and to absorb the abilities of demonic items. Lastly, Nero wields the Yamato, a katana that once belonged to Sparda and was originally left in Vergil’s care. The Yamato has an unrivalled edge and can cut anything. In addition to the great power of the blade, it also grants him the ability to activate his Devil Trigger, which enhances all of Nero’s abilities, just like it does with Dante and Vergil. The difference lies in the transformation itself. While Dante and Vergil’s Devil Triggers transform their entire bodies, Nero’s just manifest an ethereal demon above him and causes his eyes to glow red.
Extra: Nothing at the moment.
Sample Post: The sound of footsteps echoed through the alleyway of the city of Fortuna. The city’s resident devil hunter, Nero, was on the job, racing after more of the Scarecrow demons. After weeks of cleaning up the mess left behind by that bastard Sanctus, everything but the really small fry were gone. For Nero, it wasn’t even work anymore, just his late-morning workout. As Nero approached the corner, he used his Devil Bringer to grab the corner lamppost and swung off it, allowing him to swing around the corner and plunge into another group of Scarecrows feet-first. “Out of my way!” he yelled.
He immediately regained his footing, and drew his favorite sword, the Red Queen. Revving it a few times, Nero began to hack away at those lesser demons, mutilating them in a matter of seconds. Stowing his sword while surveying his handiwork, Nero is compelled to comment. “Damn,” he sighs, “this place is hardly worth the trouble anymore. Where’s the challenge?” Without even looking, he draws the Blue Rose in a flash and shoots it over his shoulder, obliterating the Scarecrow attempting to sneak up on him. “I barely even broke a sweat,” he laments, reholstering the Blue Rose, “and I didn’t even get any practice time in with Yamato. Oh well, guess every day can’t be all fun and games.” Nero begins to stroll back to his office, twirling the Yamato in his hand and whistling the song Kyrie had been practicing the night before.
(Sorry if it wasn’t quite up to par, that was just a crude attempt to capture Nero’s character. If I get to be Nero, I’ll go back and watch all the cutscenes with him to get a better idea of his speech and mannerisms.)
