After months of rebuilding, the city of Fortuna stood complete once again, even more majestic than it had been before being overrun by demons.
Nero, fully armed as always anymore, was walking up the main streets of the city, to the Order’s opera house. He looked around at the bustling streets, full of people who were all going about their lives, content once again. The people, who were at least all religious followers of the Order of the Sword, had been devastated when they discovered what Sanctus had been using them to accomplish. For a while, they had lost hope and sunk into a deep despair, but luckily Kyrie had brought them out of it.
Kyrie.
Nero’s face broke into a smile thinking of her, as it always did. She was the city’s hope. It was she who had restored the confidence of the people, reinvigorated the spirit of the Holy Knights who had survived and got the people to accept him for who he really was. Of course, being a descendant of Sparda who had saved their lives helped ease them of their fears he was just another demon. Now he just had to worry about being worshipped, which was annoying; but at least next time Dante showed up Nero could watch him flounder under the praise and worship too. That was going to be a fun day.
It was all thanks to Kyrie that Fortuna and the Order were prospering once more. She helped the people choose their new leaders, and convinced both him and everyone else that he should train the new Knights. She certainly was something else.
Having reached the Opera house, Nero kicked the door open and walked inside.
“You’re late,” the Knight at the dais reprimanded. “You were supposed to be here an hour ago, and please don’t be so rough on our buildings. How are these people supposed to follow you when you act like you do? If it wasn’t for Lady Kyrie, and the faith the new Vicar places in her, you wouldn’t be enjoying such a special position in the Kni-”
“Yeah, yeah.” Nero cut off the Knight’s criticisms and waved his hand in a dismissive manner. Nero hopped up onto the dais, only to immediately sit on its edge rather than stand at the podium. After leaning into a less formal, but much more comfortable sitting posture, Nero started the speech he had kinda-sorta prepared earlier.
“Listen people, cause I don’t wanna have to repeat myself. We lost a lot of Knights when that bastard Sanctus went on his little power trip a few months back, especially those idiots that had twisted themselves into demons by giving up their humanity. I’ve been taking care of every demon that’s popped up, but I’m going to be coming and going on other business, and can’t be forced to rush back to you people every time someone jumps at a shadow. If that wasn’t bad enough, we don’t have enough Knights to protect the island when I’m gone. That’s why you’re here. As the strongest one here…” Nero turned back and smirked at the Knight who had tried to yell at him. “… I’m going to be training you to make sure you all don’t suck. Well, I will after the others get you through the basics.”
Nero looks out over the crowd gathered there.
“Any questions?”

'Just one,' Syrissin voice echoed within the Opera house. He wasobviously a demon, his aura radiated an icy chill and his eyes were blood red. He popped his neck and growled slightly as the relaxation and tension of the muscles relieve someof his stress.
'How many here other than yourself have actually battled ademon that stronger than oh say,' Syrissin fired a shot with his custom pistol channeling ince energy into it. The shot screamed through the air and hit a wandering sanddemon freezing it and shattering it completely.
'That pathetic creature.' Syrissin looked aroun practically smelled the fear emanating from the humans. He smiled calmly an attempt to show them he wasn't some mindless monster.
'Beause if any of them can't handle a demon of such a low caliber, how on earth would they be able to handle being s like a agrorantula. Those spiders are not simple brutes. And they exist in a large enough number to be problem if any of them realize howweak these....' Syrissin had trouble not laughing at the next word,' Knights would survive. As you said yourself, you can't save them from everything...' The demon turned to leave, but stopped again. He had a feeling the boy with a glowing arm wouldn't appreciate a demon waltzing in. Especially in front of the humans around him.

Nero, clearly annoyed at the interruption, raised his eyebrow and called out to the demon and the audience.
“Looks like we’ve got an interesting character here today… and he’s an idiot at that.”
He slid off the edge of the dais, and slowly sauntered up the aisle to the demon kid.
“Since you seem to be completely brain-deprived, I’ll give you a little lesson. I’ll even make sure to use small words and talk nice and slow… won’t that be nice?”
Nero smirked and continued his stroll. As he walked, Nero addressed the newcomer’s challenges while looking around the room at the gathered recruits, barely acknowledging his presence.
“As long some piece of shit on a power trip doesn’t build a new Hell Gate and open it, we almost never get more than the small fry here. The Knights have always been enough to take out the little guys, and the rare mid-level demon can be taken down by a team of our strongest, as long as they use the right stuff. We need to shore up our numbers, but that’s why these people are here, and while they might not be strong enough right now, that’s why the others are going to train them. Then I’ll make sure they’re not so weak that they’ll just die on us and let a mid-level demon ruin the island. It’s what they’ll get from learning from one of the best.”
Nero stopped about twenty feet from the demon, paused in thought, then commented.
“There. Not a single word over two syllables. You should have been able to follow all that. Now what have you got to say for yourse-”
Just then, Nero’s phone started ringing, belting out the opening riffs of “Shall Never Surrender.”
“Hold that thought for a moment.” Nero flipped out his phone and answered it, turning his back on the demon. “Yeah? Oh, it’s you… Dante. What do you want now? And stop calling me kid.”

Syrissin chuckled at the boy.
'You know kid it's good to know that you have a brain big enough to say words over two syllables. Not that it matters...' Syrissin stared at the silver haired kid before smiling.
'And just because youkilled a possessed old man does not mean you can take out anything, open your ears kid and listen good, troubles brewing. Just make sure thee Knights can handle up to midlevel demons...' Syrissin said never removing his eyes from the boy.B
'Tell Dante I said hello.' Syrissin smiled ashe said and walked out of the building.
'Kid sure has a temper,' Syrissin said to himself.

"Aww- what? Don't you have enough time to talk to old friends, Kid? And what about respecting your elders? Didn't they teach you anything in your insane religious cult that worships my good ol' pappy?"
"Anyway, we've got problems back here in Border. The second you're done with whatever it is you're doing over there you should probably take the time to pop over here for a minute. Say hello to everyone. Buy me some pizza. And maybe even take that girl you hang out with all of the time out on a date? Or, better yet, let me take her out on a date. You know as well as I do that she digs me more than you."

“Do ya mind, pal, I’m trying to hold a conversation here. And who are you calling kid? You’re younger than I am!”
Nero watched as the teenaged demon walked out of the door Nero had kicked open on his way in here. “Whatever,” He muttered to himself. Hearing that Dante was talking to him again, Nero turned his attention back to the conversation, answering Dante’s comments as he made them.
“Hmph, if I didn’t want to talk to you, I’d have just hung up. . . . You wouldn’t know respect if it bit you on the ass. . . . Insane? Yeah, right. We only respect what Sparda did for us and intend to inherit his will. Wait, did you call him ‘pappy?’ You’ve been drinking again, haven’t you?”
He stopped talking to finish listening to what Dante’s call was really about. I’m going to shoot him for saying that about Kyrie, Nero thought to himself
“Yeah, alright, I’ll head out in a few hours… but I’m not bringing Kyrie anywhere near you, you lech. I, at least, can get a real date without paying, so I don’t want to hear anything from you on relationships.”
Dante’s immediate reply was lost on Nero, as something the demon kid had said struck him. What kind of trouble is he talking about? He thought to himself. For that matter, why even bring up mid-level demons like that at all? I already told him we had enough Knights to handle one or two at time, which is itself an extremely rare occurrence. I don’t like this.
“Hey Dante,” Nero spoke into the phone again, his tone indicating that he was completely serious now. “I just met a friend of yours here in Fortuna. Demon kid, late teens, red eyes, pitch-black hair with red at the tips, dressed all in black leather and Ice powers. You know him? He someone I need to worry about before I head over to Border City?”

Dante sighed loudly over the phone- he hated when people brought up his lack of a 'night-life' so to speak. "Whatever, Kid... people like me know a thing or two about relationships. Step one- never get involved in one. Step two- Look, but don't touch."
"And that kid you're talking about... Ice powers? He's the reason I wanted you to come to Border in the first place..." It sounds like he's shuffling through some papers- "Weren't all of the Hellgates there destroyed? That's why I called you- That kid, he's a half-breed like you and me. He wants to open up a Hellgate to let his dear friend and old enemy of mine back into Hell. Only problem is that would cause some major issues over here- you remember what happened last time, right? Snowing in one place- tropical rain forest in another? Fun stuff."

Nero snorted at the complete lack of sincerity of Dante’s second “rule.”
“Ha, ‘look but don’t touch,’ have you ever followed that piece of advice?”
Nero’s face and voice took a serious demeanor again.
“I personally scoured this entire island while the city was being rebuilt. Every single Hell Gate, both real and artificial, has been destroyed. No sustained portal can be opened here; they couldn’t even fix the previous gates if they wanted. Nothing major can happen here unless a new Hell Gate was built from scratch, and that would take years. We’ve gotten nothing but the occasional small fry over the last few months… you know, the kind that manage to drift through the odd rip between the worlds?”
Nero took a deep breath, then continued speaking with Dante, already making plans for what he needed to do.
“It seems to me that the best way for us to take care of the threat posed by that demon kid is for me to go to you after all. I’ll tell the Knights to be on alert just in case. I’ll be in Border City by tomorrow.”
Nero hung up his phone. After spending a moment to collect his thoughts, he raced back to the dais and hopped back up on it. He walked over to the Knight still there, and whispered his instructions to him. Nero told him to keep a squad on alert at all times, and for the rest to get the new recruits trained up as soon as possible.
“Yes sir!” The Knight replied enthusiastically. For all the trouble they gave him over little things like punctuality and respecting public property, they were still more than eager to follow his every word when it came to demon-slaying. Once the Knight had run off to carry out his order, he turned back to the gathered people.
“Alright people, for now, just ignore what you just heard and saw. Your training is going to begin immediately, just follow the Knight by the door, and he’ll get you all organized and started.” Noticing the blank looks on some of their face, he yelled “Get to it!” They all jumped up at once and began rushing out after the Knight.
First things first, he thought to himself, gotta let Kyrie know where I’ll be. Nero took out his cell phone and called Kyrie, leaving her a voicemail explaining the situation. Normally, he’d have gone to her in person, but she was currently away with the Order’s new Vicar on some diplomatic thing or another. She’d wanted him to come, but he knew that was just asking for trouble.
Though he was armed for everything he might need to use in the city, he was going to need a lot more for this. He quickly ran back to his home and packed his bag with his essentials with everything he would need for a couple weeks in Border City. Making sure his items, cash and artillery were all sufficient, he quickly took off towards the port. He would make it to Border City by tomorrow.
